A pre-professional workshop for high school men
The College, Career, & Beyond workshop is a week-long seminar.
It is designed for young men of high school age (entering juniors and seniors) who want to set practical goals and high ideals for their personal and professional development over the next 25 years — to form a strategy, starting now, to meet the challenges that will face them in their later professional and family lives.
The seminar’s discussions and other activities are all aimed at addressing several significant questions, and providing answers based on the experience of hundreds of young men in recent years.
The aim of the workshop is to provide experienced advice and practical suggestions in the context of the following questions:
* In practical terms, how can a high school student find out what career(s) he is best suited for?
* How can he use this self-knowledge to work more effectively and use resources (both inside and outside of school) to attain his goals?
* Success comes to people who ask the right sort of questions and then act upon them. What sort of questions should a high school junior or senior be asking now so as to shape his future?
* What can a student do now to receive the best college education for him at the lowest possible cost?
* What are the most common mistakes young people make in the college-application process, and how does one avoid them?
* What sort of reading and learning should a young person pursue outside of school to give greater strength to his judgment?
* What trends in economic, religious, and international affairs are likely to affect a young person’s family and career over the next 25 years? How can he best track these trends as they unfold?
* What can a young man do now to meet the greatest challenge of his life — to raise his own children to become competent, responsible, considerate men and women who are committed to live by Christian principles?
In addition to the classes and discussions, the workshop will provide time for sports and outside speakers. Daily Mass and times of prayer will also be available.
