Summer Service Project in Mexico

The Summer Service Project is open to high school boys who will be entering juniors or seniors in the Fall of the upcoming school year, and are interested in deepening their commitment to service. Knowledge of Spanish is helpful but not required.

The Program

The Mexico Summer Service Project is a demanding three-week program of hard work and intellectual growth. The manual component consists of projects such as landscaping and light construction for San Isidro, a village in the mountains of the state of Michoacán. The academic component, interspersed throughout the trip, includes discussions of key ideas from the social teaching of the Church, and the history and culture of Mexico.

The participants will also enjoy exposure to Mexico’s natural wonders, with opportunities for hiking and horseback riding. Participants in the service project grow in solidarity by putting their knowledge, friendship and physical abilities at the service of the less fortunate. At the same time, the natives of Michoacán teach the participants many beautiful facets of the Mexican culture and way of life.

Mexican volunteers from Club Grampin in Guadalajara assist in the project.
